Ganguly out of Irani Trpohy Match -

Sourav Ganguly, ex Indian Cricket team captain has been left out of the Rest of India team for the Irani Trophy match.

Ganguly's come back to Indian one day team sems to be impossible now. But there seems a good chance for Mohamad Kaif to impress the selectors he can fulfill Gangulys palce in test squad.

The squad while Sachin Tendulkar, who declared himself fit for the match has made it along with Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman. Parthiv Patel, the other promotion from the India A side, is likely to open the batting with Wasim Jaffer.

CORRECTED - Cricket-Akhtar turned back at Heathrow airport

Corrects rupee conversion

KARACHI, Sept 4 (Reuters) - Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar was sent back home from Heathrow airport on Thursday morning because he did not have all the documents allowing him to enter England and play for London county side Surrey.

"I had got a work permit but apparently you also need to have a work visa for that," he told Reuters.

"I had a multiple visit visa so I had to come back. Now the documents are complete and I will hopefully fly out on Friday."

Akhtar, 33, has been given special permission by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to play for Surrey for the remainder of the season.

The PCB has served a legal notice on Akhtar to pay a fine of seven million rupees ($91,719) after a five-year ban was cut to 18 months. The player had been suspended for disciplinary reasons. (Editing by John Mehaffey)

Flintoff happy to be back playing cricket

LONDON,: Andrew Flintoff says he's enjoying playing cricket again with England — without the burden of captaincy.

The 30-year-old allrounder is excelling under new captain Kevin Pietersen after having battled several long-term injuries.

"I think I've found my perfect role within the side," Flintofff said on the England and Wales Cricket Board's Web site Friday.

"I've had a go at captaincy and I think now in my own way I can lead. Kevin is obviously the captain and he's in charge, but I can help by passing on some of the things I've learnt to the younger lads, especially the bowlers and I can be there for Kevin to give advice if he needs it.

"I care a lot about playing cricket and I care a lot about playing for England. I've not always gone about it the right way every time, but my desire to do well has always been there."

Younis launches cricket team for disabled

New Delhi: Younis Khan launched a national cricket team for disabled people on Wednesday and appealed to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and citizens of the country to come forward and help the team to establish on permanent lines.

"The most important part of this campaign is that disabled people can't be ignored as they are part of our daily life," Younis was quoted as saying in Times of India.

He further told the newspaper, "I myself have been sparing time whenever possible to support and encourage them and help them set up their own team."

Younis revealed that six months ago people had approached him to get involved in the project for forming a Pakistan disabled team.

"I responded initially because it was for a good cause but after watching the enthusiasm and keenness of these disabled people for cricket, I now feel I am doing these people no favour."

He also urged the media to take time out for the cause and do whatever possible to help the disabled people.

"I am helping them organize a national cricket league for disabled people and I am thankful the cricket board has been very supportive and helpful to us," Younis said.

Inaugural Champions League put back due to Trophy clash

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - The inaugural Twenty20 Champions League has been postponed until December due to fears it could undermine next month's Champions Trophy in Pakistan.

The Champions League, originally scheduled from September 29 to October 8, would have started on the reserve day for the Champions Trophy final. But it will now be held from December 3-10, organisers said in a statement on Thursday.

The Indian, Australian and South African boards are jointly staging the $6 million (3.2 million pound), eight-team Champions League.

Last week the International Cricket Council (ICC) asked them to review the dates because the competition involved many international players and the governing body's rules prohibits major events until a week after an official tournament.

"While the Champions League Twenty20 is a domestic tournament not affected by ICC rules, we have agreed to the ICC request as a gesture of goodwill," organisers added.

The top two domestic Twenty20 teams from India, Australia and South Africa plus English champions Middlesex and Pakistan winners Sialkot will contest the league.
